Is Disney addictive?

For adults:

Nostalgia
Colorful
Clean
Immersive - experiences with your favorite movies

Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind at Epcot is one of the most incredible experiences.

Pandora in the Animal Kingdom is pretty amazing.

There's just something about it.

Not for me. I went once when I was ten and haven't been back for forty years...

And your favorite movies? Really?

You opened the Disney can of worms. Prepare for the influx of hate. Disney is not popular on DCUM.

It can be addictive, yes. Especially as they add more areas/attractions. Most people can’t do everything they want in one trip (not enough time, lines too long, etc), so if they had a good time, it’s easy enough to say “We’ll have to come back.” Galaxy’s Edge wasn’t there when I went, so I’d love to see that. Price and crowds keep me from going again.

Yeah, not for me either. Went once at 8 and again at 38 and have zero desire to return. I did enjoy going on space mountain with my kids since I had memories of doing so with my dad. I could take or leave the rest.

I do know people who loooove it, but to me that’s just a personality quirk - like other people love CrossFit or camping. I’d backpack in a beautiful place any day over Disney - colorful, clean, immersive, and without all the lines and noise and annoying people!

I’m open to the idea that I just hate Disney travel because I was raised to be a snob.

But in the end I think I just really, really don’t like crowds. Especially if lines are involved.

Also I don’t care about the nostalgia. I watched Disney stuff as a kid but it’s not important to me I guess.

So I am a snob but also I just don’t see the appeal. I can be a snob about food but still enjoy a Big Mac when the moment is right. Disney I just don’t get. But it’s a big world and everything can’t be for everyone.

Only if you're a child or a terminally weird and trashy adult.

I know this isn’t about Disney exactly, but I think there are a lot of parallels. It helps me understand the appeal of Disney even though I still want to barf about it.

I think with social media there is a lot of Disney FOMO.

No. Went once to Disney, did not have a good time, was not fun, and never ever going back.

For us, other parks (e.g., Busch Gardens anywhere, Legoland anywhere) were much more fun, had better food, etc.

YMMV.

Have you seen Epcot's Flower and Garden Festival concert line up?

Sister Hazel
Rick Springfield
Commodores
Berlin
Pointer Sister's
Plain White Ts
Modern English
Flock of Seagulls

It's an 80s nostalgic line up.

Epcot is for adults. There's nothing like it. I love Epcot. I love the food and the festivals.

I think the “addictive” part for me was having a vacation where I knew my kid was going to enjoy everything and there was no need to come up with ideas for what to do. The theming and immersive experience of the park was actually less than I expected (albeit we didn’t spend much time at Epcot so maybe that feel more immersive.) I enjoy the rides as much as my kid, so maybe sharing that experience is addictive too?

Anyway, I left after our first trip surprised how much fun it was and wanting to plan our next one. Still want to take “normal” vacations but we will definitely return.

OP here. I love DFW, as a GenXer. Did you see "The End of the Tou"? DFW looked like he had a great time at Mall of America. I read that article along with all of his writings.

David Foster Wallace was a famously well adjusted and cheery person.

Sometimes going along with the crowd is ok!

All of the parks are spectacular. The resorts are fun and it’s incredible to be swept away from the airport and immersed into that fun, fantasy world. Their different forms of transportation make the whole network seamless. And, the animatronics in the rides are state of the art. No place like it. Of course the songs and movies that we have all seen and heard over the years are woven throughout the park experiences so it captures all ages. We love it. So much to do, so easy, so fun. No other park accomplished the theming so well. It’s masterfully done throughout parking lots, restaurants, landscaping, resorts, etc.

Are Disney cruises better than others? Would adults hate it?
