As an Independent, I'd vote for him.

Ugh.
Even though he’s “as good as it gets for a Republican,” he’s still a Republican. Remember Connie Morella? She was considered a moderate Republican and enjoyed support from Democrats—mostly women—because she seemed reasonable. She lost her seat to Van Hollen because voters were frustrated that she started joining republicans on all votes instead of being reasonable. Hogan won’t go rogue. He will need his party’s backing. Maryland needs our Dems in the senate. ICYMI: Congress is a place where individuals can’t make a real impact. They need numbers to win votes. We cannot give up a Dem seat. Hogan is trying to get the credentials to eventually run for president. He will play politics and simply won’t be able to run things like he did in Maryland. Mr. Hogan: I’m a Dem who voted for you the second time around because you were doing a good job and the Dems put forth a weak candidate. I respect your commitment to preserving democracy. I think you can do more by becoming a think tank head/pundit who champions reining in the Republican Party and rebuilding it with an eye towards bipartisan consensus. Please don’t run for senate. |
| Hogan will have to come out against abortion. That's a death knell in 2024. |
|
He is very pro-life and the favors he did for his own real estate holdings and those of his cronies during his term in office bordered on criminal.
No thanks. |
| This will go just as well as Phil Bredeson - another moderate problem solving former governor in the non-dominant party - who ran for Senate in Tennessee in 2018. He lost by ten points and Hogan will lose by more. |
Morella continued to be reasonable but still couldn’t survive the fact that a vote for her was a vote for Newt as Speaker. - someone who voted for her several times until then |
|
Nah, I voted for Hogan one time and it was enough.
He's not a traitor like so many Republicans now, and reasonably competent, but I'm not voting for another Republican for national office ever again in my life. |
| Hmmm. Pro Life or Pro Choice. |
| Got my vote. Hopefully he wins and tips the balance of the Senate. |
| The only Republican with any chance of winning. At least he’ll make Trone work for it. |
No, he won't. Unlike the Democrats where you have to be pro-abortion to be welcomed under the tent, the Republicans have pro-life and pro-choice members. Their pro-choice members are not rabid "abortionists." |
