did your kids learn cursive?
Yes, from workbooks (Zaner Bloser, starting with 2c) that I bought.
No. The cursive workbook came home at the end of third grade, empty. I had my kids do it over the summer but because they didn’t use cursive in class ever they didn’t retain it.
My 2nd grader started learning, then her teacher went on maternity leave, and the sub has not continued the lessons. I try to write them notes in cursive so they can at least read it.
I am a third grade teacher. We should be teaching cursive, per the curriculum, but i do not. Students are extremely low this year. Cursive is not a priority.
Yes. My current eight grader learned in third grade.
+1, as a parent, I agree, it’s not a priority. |
No. Why would they? Maybe to sign their names? Docusign baby.
No, no time, wonder what they were being taught instead.
No.
They could practice penmenship starting in K. They waste time on other things like Go Noodle videos. It’s not on the SOL and therefore they don’t care.
Yes, cursive is taught and practiced in Catholic schools.
Yes, they learned in 3rd grade after the SOLs. I remember because my elderly MIL was obsessed with asking this. I’m not sure they use it much, neither do I anymore. I’d prefer FCPS teach proper typing instead of having it as an after school class.
My third graders practice during their specialized instruction block. |
In FCPS, no. Mine went to Montessori when she was younger, so she can write in cursive.
