| Despite submitting the requests in Mid-December, two teachers still have not filled out the MySchoolDC recommendation requests. They’re both aware, but I don’t get why they’re delaying. Feels very nerve wracking and frustrating. |
| What school? |
| It's due on Friday. |
| Same here. Submitted requests weeks ago, one teacher and one administrator have done theirs, but we are still waiting on the last one. Very frustrating. |
I know but why wait until the last minute? It’s really really frustrating. Doesn’t feel like the teachers are getting support to complete them. |
| There is no hurry to write them because they are not due until tomorrow. I wait til the last minute because I want to do them in a batch not piecemeal. |
| Same. Teacher specifically asked that we submit early to avoid waiting til the last minute. I submitted a request the day the lottery opened. And...nothing. Sent the reminder email a couple of times through the app. My kid even asked if there was anything they needed. Teacher said to not bother them about it because they would get to them by Friday. |
| Just wait until your kid applies to collegr! Trust that the teachers will submit them on time which is tomorrow. And why wait until the last minute? Because they are busy and this isn’t technically on the list of things a teacher is required to do during their workday. |
| I hear you completely. And it sucks. I had an issue when my kid was applying to high schools two years ago. We followed the school's internal recommendation letter process that had a multiple month lead time. The deadline got closer and closer and this was the only letter outstanding. My kid checked with the teacher a few days before the deadline and got the assurances the teacher was on it. Then my kid says teacher was not in school the day before the letters are due and my kid's was still outstanding. I reached out to the AP, asking if we needed to find another teacher to write it last minute, and got further assurances the letter would be done in time. Deadline came and went and no letter. Luckily the school my kid applied to was understanding and allowed a late submission for the letter, and my kid was accepted. But it was needlessly torturous. I told myself all the same stuff that others are telling you about how the teacher will meet the deadline, yada yada. Well, stuff happens and this teacher dropped the ball. I share just to validate your concerns. It's super stressful. But, if my kid's experience is any help, the school did not penalize my kid for something the teacher failed to do. Best of luck! |
| Don’t forget to compensate the teachers. Glad all of ours are completed. |
|
“Don’t forget to compensate the teachers.”
What do you mean? They are compensated through their salary. Am I supposed to give a tip for better service? |
| Write them a thank you letter with a Starbucks gift card. This is a nice gesture. |
| I will happily write a note and send a gift card, if only they will complete the recommendation, or at least respond to my emails. |
This isn’t in their job description. |
Then they should change the system so that one of their in service days is dedicated to this. |
