How to punish rude teen behavior

| My almost 13yo has turned into such a jerk. He was the sweetest boy in elementary. Now he is moody and grumpy and rude and disrespectful. He is always talking back and making small tasks difficult. Even coming to eat dinner with the family without his phone at the table is too hard. I took away his AirPods already because he often with tune us out and ignore us. I took his phone away yesterday. He seems to think he is doing nothing wrong. |

| Do you want to punish rude behavior or correct rude behavior? Think about what you want (doing chores, coming to the table after 1-2 requests rather than 10, no backtalk, etc.) and how to get there. |

| Normal. Just keep reinforcing and maintain boundaries. Best advice is if possible, communicate with other parent ahead of time so you are both on the same page when it comes to expected acceptable behavior and consequences. Give a warning/reminder then enforce. No discussion. It starts to sink in after a while. |
