How do I get rid of a contractor?

Anonymous
I’m having work done on my home and it needs some electrical work that will take about a week to finish. I contacted a licensed electrician (and even verified it with the city) because it includes rewiring work that needs a permit. He seemed nice, professional and showed up on time. Because we were going to let him come and go as needed with a lockbox and while we were at work we ran a background check on him. Turns out he has 2 sexual battery charges and a domestic violence charge. They were from 10 years ago but I’m too afraid to have him work for me. We don’t have a contract but he expects work to start soon. How do I politely get rid of him?

My preferred method is to text saying, I have unexpected expense comes up and I have to postpone the electrical work for now.
I will let you know when I am ready in the future.

Just say your plans changed and you’re postponing the work for now. No biggie.

You owe a bunch in taxes and have no budget now. He won’t do the work knowing you can’t pay him. Tell him you will let him know when it’s back in the budget, maybe later in the uear

Hi, our financial situation has changed and we are no longer able to compete the work as discussed. How much do I owe you for pulling the permit? Thanks
