Gaithersburg Moms help me with places to live

I am looking for my elderly mother, who is in good shape, healthy, etc. and would like to consider buying an affordable condo in the are. What about the 800 Quince Orchard block? What about Brassie Way? Safe areas? All advice and input appreciated re: places to look at or avoid in Gaithersburg. Thank you.

Well, there are definitely some places to avoid. I'm not sure of the names of some of the street, but do NOT buy on West Deer Park, the area next to the Gold's Gym shopping center, or the area right off of Clopper (the area to both the left and right behind the Magruder's shopping center). I went on a police ride-along, and those were singled out as the places with the most calls, at least in the City of Gaithersburg.

Sorry I don't know any places to look at specifically, as I'm not too familiar with the condos in the area. I would say that the "nicer" areas are going to be more expensive, so if something seems like a really good deal, definitely check out the surrounding area and maybe if you can get police reports, look at those.

I agree with the PP. Stay west of 270 and avoid the apartments behind Magruders and around the shopping center on the far end of Muddy Branch. Stay within 20878 if you want to be pretty sure you're in a good area (there are other nice areas too, obviously, but the entirety of 20878, with the exceptions of those 2 listed area, are pretty nice. My husband's Grandmother lived in the Active Adult community in Kentlands, which are apartments, but it was nice and she liked it. They had activities and things for them all the time. The people there seemed outgoing and friendly....not like an "old folks" home.

9:41 here again, I also wanted to add to stay away from the areas around North Summit by Girard Street, and also pretty much the entirety of Girard Street to East Diamond (that's the entire street, by the way). There are also some fairly new buildings right off North Summit near the elementary school - even though they look nice, avoid them. Seriously, the cop I was with said he wouldn't go to those areas without his gun.

There are pockets of 20877 (my zip code) that are nice, but I agree with 11:29 that 20878 is a better bet overall.

Does it have to be Gaithersburg? Condos in Decoverly Rockville are nice, and close to the Rio.
