I cannot attend the parent meeting. The information is not posted online. Can someone else share?

I had wanted to know last year, both better to be able to talk with my DC afterwards and to make sure there wasn't anything really off the deep end. If similar to that/prior years, it's really harmless and pretty responsible. Likely a number of things you already discussed with your DC. The principal or teacher (I can't remember which) was able to direct me to the material.
Of course, there are some for whom the subject is personally or culturally taboo in a public environment. I do not begrudge their decision to keep their child out, except that I would hope, sincerely, that they would be sure to address all of the content at home. There are too many dangers that might befall those uninformed, and too many social ills that might follow. |
| Ask your teacher, or the grade lead teacher if your school has one, or the Principal. I think it was over a week each day for one block - Social Studies/Science. At parent info night, school showed slides on topics that will be covered and played a short video clip of the video they show students in class. I can't remember if they separate the boys and girls for all the lessons. Typically a male teacher for the boys. Maybe the nurse comes in to answer questions but if they don't, the students may have opportunity to write their questions for nurse. |
| I thought sex ed was pushed back to 7th grade in MoCo |
| It isn’t sex ed It is basically puberty 101. |
|
OP have you not taught your kid sex ed yet?
If not have at it. NOW! |
| kid is 10 what's the hurry? |
Hahaha…when do you think is appropriate to teach them these things? Are you waiting to teach them water safety and fire safety as well. |
| It’s really basic. Kinda what PP said, Puberty 101. Menstruation, hygiene, etc. They are not talking about the sexual act. Kids giggle. It rather innocuous. |
Because some girls start to have periods at this age |
+1 |
| WHy would you not talk about the sexual act at that age? In my sex ed in 4th grade private school in a deep south red state we learned about sex, gay sex, AIDS, etc. etc. and this was the early 90s. Trust me with the internet these days your kids have definitely SEEN the sexual act by 10 years old lol |
Puberty starts about then for a lot of kids. |
| 5th grade FLHS is tame. 7th grade FLHS in MCPS changed this year, so more controversial. |
Family Life is just as the title says, Family Life. Nothing should be new for the students. Schools just checking their box saying they covered it. |
