Help me draft an email to a restaurant?

Anonymous
Dear Chinese Restaurant,

I love your food. You are far away from me and I don't have a car so I use door dash or uber eats to get your food. But when I order soup which is every time because I love soup, it often (at least half the time) opens and spills all over the bag and the other food ruining it and leaving me with half the soup. Can you find a better way to close your soup containers so they can't spill? I get my money back but wind up without dinner.

Thank you,
Otherwise happy customer

Sounds like a perfect email to me!

If they refunded the money, they obviously know they are losing business.

Why not just call and ask them to tape the lid shut on future orders?

DP. Doordash does the refund, not the restaurant. Never sure if the restaurant ever knows.

OP is smart to contact restaurant.

I wouldn't take the letter so long, though.

I would just say:

Hi! I love your food and order regularly through Doordash since I don't live close enough to go in person. My only issue is your soup containers always open and spill. Can you secure in tighter container so I can continue to order and enjoy your food?

Thanks!

Pick it up yourself.

Door Dash or Uber Eats makes the decision to refund the money. Not the restaurant.

I can't. I don't have a car and it would take me an hour each way between walking and mass transit.

Ask them to plastic wrap your soup shut. It won't spill. Ever.

In addition to the email to the restaurant, can you comment or add a special request on your DoorDash/UberEats orders to ask the restaurant to tape/plastic wrap/secure the soup lid?

I can't help with your letter but I can certainly help the restaurant with their reply:

Good lord, put a paper towel down or stop clawing at your soup container like an ogre. it's not that hard.

This is fine but I think you need a way to link it to your next order such as in the order comments or mentioning it when placing the next order by phone (but I don’t know that you can do that with DoorDash).

An entire dishtowel wouldn't fully absorb how much soup spills, and when it spills into other food also thereby ruining it, there's nothing to be done. It spills in transit before the delivery person has even handed it to me. Stop being a jerk.
