Loss of smell/taste with latest COVID variant?

Anonymous
I tested positive for COVID (first time) last week and experienced extreme fatigue, sore throat, and body aches.

Today, I just discovered loss of smell/taste. Has anyone else experienced these symptoms with this new variant? If so, how long did it last?

Thank you in advance for your experiences.

I did not test, but when the smell and taste went away/got distorted on day 2 of symptoms, I knew. This was early January. The first symptoms were a chest tickle and a cough that was mostly dry, but got phlegmier a day or two later. All told I was moderately sick feeling for 2-3 days, then progressively better over about a week. Never had a fever, or sore throat. The chest tickle, with occasional cough still happens a couple times/week, but is pretty much gone.

Yes but I lost my taste the first two days of testing positive and it resolved by the next week. My sense of smell was affected a bit too, to a lesser extent.

It was actually more of a change of taste than entire loss - foods I normally like tasted really funny.

Yes, and it took about a week to get it back. Also had fever, chills, sore throat, snot...

I’ve had covid for a week and food tasted off for a few days and my stomach was off, but I think I’m getting better. Cough is persistent though.

Covid in September. Still have significant smell and taste loss. Was restored for one month after I got the Spikevax. Now, back down to about 25%. It’s awful.

It can happen with any virus.

I lost sense of smell and taste with covid in January. Wasn't expecting it at this stage of the virus. It's startlingly different than the usual sensory changes with other viruses. Took about 5 days to fully return.

My teen has it right now and reported loss of taste and smell today (day 3).

I lost my sense of taste for 5-7 days and my sense of smell for 7-9 days.

Yes, I had covid last month and lost sense of taste/smell on day 3. Lasted about 2 weeks total with gradual improvement in the second week. My tongue actually felt numbish, like when you burn the tip on a hot drink, but all over. And my salivary glands seemed to be on overdrive for those two weeks, too. First covid experience for me so nothing to compare it to.

I’m a weak post covid and have my sense of smell and taste back, but my tongue still feels burnt. This is the first time I’ve seen someone else mention it.

I woke up feeling lousy last Friday morning. I tested negative for covid but have been sicker these last five days than any other viral infection I’ve had in decades - somehow managed to avoid any infection the entire pandemic until now.

I can’t smell or taste anything and feel so lousy I can’t make myself eat. I’ve lost 6 pounds over the last five days and really just wish I could get over this already. No idea what it is, got both the flu and newest covid booster in September.

Just shoot me. Please!
