Report Card Question

Anonymous
I check ParentVUE weekly. My son has been maintaining a low-mid A all quarter. The last time I checked it was over the weekend. I looked at his report card this morning and he got a C. I’ve emailed the teacher to understand what happened.

I see people post about monitoring assignments. Where do you do that? Is there another application besides ParentVUE that I’m supposed to use? How do parents know what assignments haven’t been graded or if there isn’t an assignment posted?

There are teachers better about posting to Synergy/ParentVUE than others. Some use Canvas more, shifting grades to ParentVUE in batches (or at the end, but they aren't supposed to do that). If they go the Canvas route, ask them where, exactly, you can see grades/feedback on current assignments.

What grade is your child? The teacher might not have graded all assignments when you checked.

How do I see this? Where do I look so that I know that all assignments have not been graded?

In parentVue, under grades. But at times teachers dont post the assignments or the grades till much later. What grade is your child?
Go to parentVue->grades-> select mp2 from the drop down

9th grade. If the teachers aren’t posting the grades until much later, how do I monitor what is happening so I’m not caught off guard?

Thank you for this. I didn’t know you could go back and see previous marking periods. Now I’m even more confused. He has 0 missing assignments, a 98.95%, and a C.

I think the C is for Consistently participating in class. Not a letter grade for the course.

In ES you cant see percentages at least not that I know of, so your post is confusing. ES grades are just letters not numbers.

Too much of a lag on ParentVue. I learned to take what was posted there with a huge grain of salt.

OP, in high school, you really should ask your son what happened with his grade before emailing the teacher. He should know. If he says he does not, then have HIM email the teacher (watch him do it if you must). Its important for kids to learn how to self advocate at this age. Teachers shouldn't have to deal with parent emails every time a child gets a lower grade.

OP, do you know how to access the Canvas classrooms for your child? I'm not sure how well populated those are in elementary school, but that's where I see specific assignments, feedback, and scores for my middle and high school kids (at least for assignments completed online). To get there, log into ParentVue on a browser (not the app), then click on Parent Resources and then MyMCPS Classroom.

I hate this. One of DC's teachers does this. She grades tons of assignments at the last minute and does not even input them into Canvas or so we have no idea what is missing or what the grades are until it is too late. Refuses to do anything about it despite repeated entreaties.

This is correct. He has an A for the class, the C is for consistent. It means he’s a great student. Read the report card thoroughly. Look at the key/legend on the back. Well done to your child!

I'm hoping you are correct. The line reads:

Grade= C
P* = O
AC* = C
