Shocked; I'm shocked! |
There is actually a lot of good commentary in the discussion portion of the article. It is clear that there is a lot of dissatisfaction with this mayor, despite the claimed progress.
I know, in my neck of the woods, which Fenty carried easily in 2006, there is, at best, a split, and generally more enthusiasm for Gray. |
New poster here. Here is the endorsement from the editorial board. It is quite clear - the Post very enthusiastically supports Fenty.
The Washington Post Adrian M. Fenty in the Democratic primary for D.C. mayor Sunday, August 1, 2010; [ Edited due to copyright violations. Please respect copyright laws. ] |
It's too bad that the Post Editorial Board has so many critical flaws and assumptions that there is no choice but to have a final decision which is also flawed.
I think the comments in the Washington Post link, in response to the endorsement are quite telling. I would also submit that this is incredibly early to have such an endorsement. I wonder why they did it now, and not ina few weeks, when people are back from vacation, and closer to the primary? |
I daresay, can anyone please explain what Gray's vision is? What he plans to do and how he plans to go about doing it? Fenty seems to have integrity; he had a vision and is following through on it. He's doing exactly what he said he would do. A rare accomplishment for a politician. Gray seems to be all smoke and mirrors. |
Is that integrity the $80+ Million he has funneled to his friends and fraternity brothers? Is the integrity the blatant subversion of DC Law requiring the City Council to approve contracts over a certain level? Is the integrity the removal of appointees who refused to play along with such subversion? Is the integrity the appointment of wholly unqualified campaign donors to key boards and commissions to which they have absolutely no interest? I could go on, but really, one can say a lot of things positive about Mayor Fenty, but this isn't one of them. |
Better check Gray's fence. It might be a foot too tall. |
Here's the first dissenting post from the comments section: "DC is a better place to live for the well off, especially if you are a developer. But for the average person, or worse off like the homeless, DC is much worse and DC's future is being sold for a bowl of pottage. Fenty is showing corruption for his buddies that should invite scrutiny, not to be swept under the rug by the Post as has been the case. The Post editorial board is made up of rich socialistas, not the lower or middle class who are paying the price. There is more to DC than Michelle Rhee and developers." That pretty much sums it up. If you're interested in an economically healthy, economically and racially diverse city, vote Fenty. If you're interested in going back to a time when *all* of the region's poor and homeless live in one large, dysfunctional public housing project called "DC", to the benefit of MD and VA, vote for Gray. |
Oh the Summer Youth Employment Program is over budget again and the Mayor wants to take money from other programs in order to extend it.
Sounds like Marion Barry to me. I thought Gray was supposed to bring back the days of Barry but it looks like Fenty is mismanaging the summer youth employment program in fine old Barry tradition. |
Pffft. "Mismangement" my butt. The sole purpose of the SYEP is to give money to poor kids for doing make-work. Given the electoral make-up of the city at present, cutting it is political suicide. Folks east of the river won't actually vote for a candidate based on "good governance". They want patronage. The whole point of Gray's candidacy is to "help those who've been left behind". Help them with what? Parks? A more efficient DMV? No. They want city jobs for the unemployable. That's what Gray is (implicitly or explicitly) promising them. If Grover Norquist were elected mayor of DC, he'd keep the SYEP. |
Gray and the majority of the council voted to NOT give the mayor the extra money he wanted. I don't get how that is being devoted to "city jobs for the unemployable." Seems like Fenty is more worried about that than Gray based on current behavior. And if Grover Norquist kept that program, he'd be a hypocrite. |
Ah, you are just mad because Fenty lost the straw poll in his own front yard. And, he lost big! |
Keep celebrating while you can. You are going have a nasty hangover in the fall. Did you know that Fenty lost every single straw poll in 2006?
And just remember when he opens his war chest that it was Gray who started the negative advertising. Too bad he couldn't afford more than YouTube. But the mens rea was clearly there. Thus far, Fenty's ads have been about Fenty. Gray's ad was about Fenty. It would be nice if he could afford to fix his teeth, too. Maybe then he'd look less like the pimp that he is. Oh, and some proper English would be a plus. Only I think that is yet another tactic by which he wages a class and racial war in this city. Good luck with that. |
^^^^^^
Spoken and written like a true Fenty apologist. I wonder when Peaceaholics will become a negative issue for the Mayor? To me the more pressing issue is the financial ruin that Fenty has brought to the city, blowing through the surplus left by his predecessor. This is serious. |
