Need to "renew" my kids' passports but the appointment website has said it's unavailable since Saturday. Can I just show up or do I actually need an appointment? |
Here’s the trick - you MUST include 1-adult in the form for the site to work. You cannot schedule an appt with kids only.
Just add an adult and it’ll work! Doesn’t matter if hit don’t need your passport renewed. |
It says unavailable for me in all cases, for over a week:
This service is currently unavailable. This service is currently unavailable. We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause. |
Same here. Very frustrating. |
Was just trying to do this and got the same message. |
I got the same message. |
Me too! So frustrating. |
Not sure where you are located but if going to an office open on weekend with no appointment, you can expect to wait many hours. And they will cut off walk ins if it gets too busy. |
I'm experiencing the same thing. I plan to head to my location in the morning. |
I figured out a workaround. you have to go to the USPS passport website and search for the specific location, once your location pops up you enter the service type information, number of adults, vs number of minors and click on the calendar -the calendar will offer days available. it's annoying but it works and I got my appointment tomorrow!

I tried this and it was not the issue. The previous poster is correct. you have to enter your specific location, then scroll down and click on passport hours and the calendar will highlight available days. |
Locate the usps on google maps, scroll down their details and they have a link to male the appt! I did that way and it worked! |
I finally figured it out by going to the google maps of the location and pressing on the website link from there. |
I am just a random dude in Cleveland, OH. My usps.com fails and follow-up google searches took me to "dcurbanmom.com". Here, I learned the magical, Google Maps life hack around the "This service is currently unavailable" nonsense on the main USPS passport website! I am now one step closer to traveling like Stella to some exotic Caribbean location and #GettingMyGroveBack! Thank you all on the DC Urban Mom Travel discussion forum!!!!! |
Ha ha. Stick around here--I have picked up so much useful info from this community over the years, most of it unrelated to parenting. There are tons of sub forums. Right now, I'm doing car research on the Cars and Transportation forum. |
