What style of play would you say each of the DMV ECNL clubs have (on the girls' side)?
Union - possession VDA - direct Arlington - ?? NVA - possession? Bethesda - ?? Brave - ?? And what style of play do you see among the top D1 women's college teams? I'm hoping to find some consolidated data. I found consolidated data on the men's side here: https://totalfootballanalysis.com/data-analysis/styles-usa-ncaa-division-1-college-soccer-data-analysis-statistics. But I couldn't find any similar analysis on the women's side. |
| Brave = Direct |
|
BSC = best representation of a club with a style and it's a possession based ideology.
Should be noted though that the best teams will figure out some mix during a match because it's all about problem solving during it if the base style isn't producing. |
Union - Possession VDA - Hybrid Arlington - Direct NVA - Direct Bethesda - Possession Brave - Direct |
|
I think the better way to classify style of play in this area would be:
1) Hybrid 2) Direct 3) Uber-direct or “Direct on Steroids” |
You've never watched NVA 09 or 07 then. |
By your count, 2 out of 6 teams playing a form of possession makes the club possession? |
I just haven't seen the other teams as much. But those two are fantastic to watch. |
That's probably the right answer |
| Have not seen all age groups at all of these clubs. Having a player in Bethesda and not on one of the more talented age groups in the club. Having said that, all of the teams play out from the back results are different between teams, but definitely a defined style of play across the board. |
Probably a more representative sample than what these lists are based on: one age group that DD plays in. |
Bethesda has great individual players because they have the whole county and it is a great diverse county. Like most of America, they possess well when they are the better team. Possession teams tend to do much better in the older age groups. Bethesda teams do better in the younger age groups where good individuals shine and their teams get worse as they get older. I don’t think anyone would say Bethesda has good coaching. They just have no competition. |
| For those "in the know" here is a different question. Which of these clubs do you feel actually have a style of play that is club wide vs coach dependent? |
BSC has great individual players becuase of money, or the wealth of the county that they are the only show in town for, true. These girls been doing privates since 8-9 years old, thats a serious investment before you start shelling out 7-10k each season in ECNL. You are correct that there is no competition in the DMV when the games matter like league and playoffs, not showcases/scrimmages and meaningless tournaments at the beginning and end of the season. Playing in the North Atlantic for ECNL is all the competion they need. They have a monoply in MoCo, recruit from the rest of the surrounding counties in MD and sometimes even from NoVA, and then play the best competion on the East coast up in North in Jersey and PA |
VA Union has a possession style that is not coach dependent. |
