| Let me preface this with, we do not need a vacation, it is a want, i know. However, i never grew up with vacations and always grew up poor. We would love to take a vacation as a family. We never been on one. However, we dont have a lot of money to throw away. Any ideas? |
| One year we did a staycation of two nights in a Foggy Bottom hotel and walked to museums and monuments. Not cheap cheap but fun and way less than airfare. |

Williamsburg, Jamestown, Yorktown area. You can rent a Condo so you can make breakfast and pack a picnic lunch. Visit the different historical sites, which are not that expensive, and go out for dinner.
If you are interested in hiking, rent a house or condo near the Smokies and go into the poark and hike a bunch. Heck, you can do that in Shenandoah. Or look for a hotel with a small kitchen in it, a place where you can make breakfast and store stuff for picnic lunches. Eating out is one of the bigger expenses. If you like camping, go camping and hiking. |
| Camping or glamping in cabins! |
| I second the Williamsburg Area or even Va Beach. There are several condo/vacation properties in Williamsburg that are not super expensive and have bedrooms/full kitchens. Most of the attractions in that area have discount tickets if you stay in an associated property and there is always Busch Gardens if you are up for a theme park. |

Do Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and the Smoky Mountains.
Lots of fun stuff for kids and then also the National Park is pretty amazing. |
| Williamsburg with 1 day at Busch Gardens is perfect! |
| Agree with others who say Williamsburg. |

What’s the budget, dates and length of time? What are you interested in?
Williamsburg or Virginia Beach: or a combo of both. Rent a condo so you’ll have a kitchen to cook in and space to spread out. Myrtle Beach: plenty of condo resorts with lazy rivers (even in cold weather) Massanutten/Shenandoah area Disney area or maybe Tampa/Busch Gardens, if you can drive instead of flying My thought is visit a travel agent or travel site, depending on your budget maybe an all inclusive in the DR or Cancun. |

| I came in here to say Williamsburg! We did it when my kids were about 7, 9 and 12. They loved it and I think they'd pack there bags right now to go back (at 13, 15 and 18). |

What does “cheap” mean to you?
Busch gardens and Williamsburg have a combined “spring bounce” ticket. It’s cheap compared to flying somewhere. It’s not cheap compared to other things. |

Look at state
Park and regional park cabins. They vary from just roof, walls, bunk beds and fire pit to cosy with kitchens, fireplaces and linens. If baking brownies and toasting marshmallows and playing cards together in the woods is not enough, choose a location you can take day trips from. Beginner one day all inclusive ski package or a commercial cave tour, luray is not the only option. Philadelphia is cheaper than NY. NY is doable stay in nJ, but I’d wait till they’re a bit older for NYC. Roanoke or Pittsburgh or Baltimore would all make a fun 2,3 or 4 days. |
| What does a person do in Roanoke for vacation? |

Went here for spring break 2 years ago and place isn’t cheap! Rooms were reasonable but extras and food were crazy expensive. |
