The Not Trump Strategy

Anonymous
I am really concerned about the Democratic Party. Each answer to a a real question seems to be "But, he's not Trump."

This didn't work in 2016 and i don't think its going to work in 2024.

I am frustrated.

You should be concerned. You all could have come up with a better candidate than Biden. And, of course, so could the right. People are turning on him in favor of what they see is the lesser of two evils- Trump. That’s really saying something about the state of affairs of this country.

OP here. Maybe the demonocratic party needs a few more years to lick their wounds, regroup, and realize that we are serious about change.

Our political system is a circus . . . And the best thing running is a clown.

Biden beat trump. The concern it with the brain damages GOP not seeming to remember that.

Yep. And, now we have seen 3 years of his feckless "leadership."
If you think everyone who voted for him in 2020 will do the same in 2024, you are delusional. Lots of regretful Biden voters.

It is a circus and I can promise you a lot of us on the right aren’t happy either with tje choices we have. It just all feels very off!

In 2016, people were still writing articles like this:

https://wapo.st/42p3jFM

"Calm down. We’ll be fine no matter who wins."

No one is writing stuff like this anymore.

The best paragraph from this article:

"If Trump wins, he’ll be held more or less in check by the House and Senate because that’s the way our system of government is set up. Not even Republicans are eager to follow Trump’s lead.

There won’t be a wall. He won’t impose any religion-based immigration restrictions, because even Trump isn’t that lame-brained. He’ll dress up and behave at state dinners and be funny when called upon. He’ll even invite the media to the White House holiday party. He won’t nuke Iran for rude gestures. He won’t assault women. He and Vladimir Putin will hate each other, respectfully."

Wow. That didn’t age well.

I’ll be interested to see what happens when the general election gets started in earnest. Even people who supported Trump were tired of his constant whining and unpredictability by the end of his term. It’s like childbirth, you have to be in the middle of it to remember how painful it is. When we start hearing wall-to-wall Trump, people will be back in the throes of unhinged tweets, the pandemic nightmare, and the extraordinary cognitive dissonance of a president ricocheting from one idea to another. Plus his dementia will make it all even more excruciating.

Whether they win the election or not, running Biden/Harris again in 2024 is a long-term losing strategy for the nation. The nation simply needs younger and more capable leadership than what will be on offer. Biden isn't up to the task today, and there isn't any reason to think he or Harris will be able to handle the world of 2027.

Not shoving those two aside and running someone else was a major mistake.

I can completely understand why people would choose to vote for neither Trump or Biden but anyone who seriously chooses Trump as the lesser of two evils in a choice between Trump and just about anyone is not making a well thought out, rational decision. First and foremost, a US president must have a high degree of integrity considering the enormous power and responsibility of the position and Trump made it perfectly clear that he doesn't have sufficient integrity while he was in office.
