College food halls like Duke?

Anonymous
We just did a tour of some of the North Carolina schools. I was completely blown away by the Food Hall at Duke. Not only were there a dozen different restaurants to choose from, but the space was gorgeous, both inside and out. And there was a pub to boot. I feel like visiting the food hall at Duke was a big mistake because now the dining hall bar is set so high. So my question is, what other colleges have a fabulous food hall like Duke? Duke can’t be the only one...

UMass has a good one.

It's not the only one but it is one of the best in the nation. We've been there a few times, the variety and quality are insane. Plus different areas to sit depending on what environment you want - quiet for example or nice view outside.

Others I can think of offhand, though more for food than any other element - Georgetown's dining hall is pretty good, Wash U definitely good. Cornell is good quality. UCLA. Virginia Tech is solid.

Are you referring to the one in the middle of campus where they are private restaurants open to the public where you can also use Duke dining credits?

That type of food hall is pretty common these days. I recall something at UNC, Penn, GA Tech…probably countless others.

I thought Duke was good…don’t get me wrong…but nothing unique these days.

I didn’t think UNC’s food hall was even close to Duke’s.

Georgetown has disgusting food. It’s not even close to the quality of Duke.

if we could, we made it a point to eat at the dining halls during our tours. Duke Wu hall was of course impressive, Cornell Morrison was great. But a parent friend said something that made sense--after a while all dining hall food gets monotonous and the same. so, don't worry too much about it as long as it is decent. Look at other options outside if the kid wants a change.

I would add a lot depends also on how often/long your student will be on campus. It may not matter much if your student moves off campus sophomore year or uses Uber/Grubhub. Times have changed since old people like me went to school!

People already hate Duke. You just gave them a reason.
