St. Lucia, Hawaii or …?

Anonymous
I was awarded a 4 day, 3 night vacation by work. Obviously we can add on days, but that’s what they are covering. It has to be in North America, Hawaii or the Caribbean.

Looking for suggestions. Beachy and relaxing with other activities (hiking, water sports, etc.). Something different from our every day life. We’ll be traveling without kids. We go to Europe and the USVIs/BVIs, so I’m at a little bit of a loss. Hawaii seems far for such a short time (how much would you plan to add on?), St. Lucia looks interesting. I’ve been to Bermuda a million times but it does sort of fit the bill.

Anything I’m not thinking of? Another island you’d recommend?

St Lucia is amazing. It's not too far and you'll have really great food and you can tour the island - it's a neat place. Beats just sand but you'll get the beach too! They have the pistons that are beautiful and when we went in 2019 or so we stayed at Sugar Beach Viceroy. We did volcano stuff and the kids loved it. I totally disagree that it's a honeymoon island. We did ours in Tahiti Bora Bora and that is def a landmark destination for honeymoons. I picked St Lucia because if it's location and offering more of an adventure. For reference we love Costa Rica, PR, DR, Hawaii and Mayakoba. We love BVI for the sailing but if you already know it then I'd pick one of these. I think personally Hawaii and CR need more time. I'd look at PR DR and St L. But if you just want to enjoy a beach look at Virgin Gorda or Aruba? I just like a bit more than that

We stayed for 5 days I think in St L.

Sorry - sans kids it's totally romantic!!! On DR we did Cap Cana Eden Roc and Mayakoba Rosewood. Tulemar Resort in CR. Tulemar is fab for the local places to eat outside of resort within 5-10 min walking. But the resort is a great place to dine too. There's a private beach there that makes it my new fave island v caribbeans . We do high end but with the prices now we couldn't do any of it except Tulemar.

Enjoy!!!

Love CR and Tulemar, but it's more for a family vacation than a romantic vacation. I'd look at St. Barth (Rosewood) or St. Martin (La Samanna). Alternatively, Blackberry Farm in TN is lovely.

I’d go to Grace Bay in Turks and Caicos

Turks and Caicos was amazing for us - loved Aruba too.

Anguilla comes up on here a lot and it would be a great option for 3 nights. We got bored spending a week there, but it’s perfect for a long weekend. The beaches are gorgeous and there is no shortage of luxurious accommodations. Have dinner at Sharky’s one night. Yum!

Have you ever been to Hawaii, OP? Having a “head start” of 3 paid nights sounds pretty nice. We did Kauai and Maui together in 8 days. Worth thinking about.

I don’t like anything about St. Lucia. Hawaii is too far away for 4-5 days. Turks and Caicos and Grand Cayman are manageable and lovely.

Aman in Turks and Caicos would be my choice.

New poster… we went last year. Hated it. I wouldn’t go again even for a free trip. Nope.

Where did you stay? We stayed at Jade Mountain and LOVED it. We’ve been all over the Caribbean and Hawaii and it was one of our favorite places with the lush jungle and mountain setting. The only negative was the hour car ride up the mountain as I’m prone to motion sickness.
