Blake vs Einstein vs Northwood

Anonymous
I would like to know more about their Dance programs as well as the schools in general. Tell me the good, the bad, and the ugly.

How would your child have the option of Blake vs. Einstein vs. Northwood? Blake is in the NEC, Einstein and Northwood are in the DCC.

Einstein has a very strong dance program. Northwood is about to start construction.

Go to the dance showcase next Friday and you’ll get a good idea about all of the dance programs. Also if your dancer wants to be a Pom check out the divisions for each school. That’s also an indication of how good the dance program is.

We’re in the NEC, but my child attends a middle school in DCC so is eligible to apply to DCC schools as well.

I know nothing about Blake, but I would choose Einstein for Dance over Northwood.

Einstein’s dance program is strong. Plenty of options for both classes and extracurriculars, and lots of performance and competition opportunities. They do a spring musical every year, and dancers from the program often participate in that as well, even if they aren’t really singers.

It’s pretty impressive, for a public school without a ton of resources. And the vibe of the school is just generally pretty artsy and creative. There’s an active parent group (PACE) that supports all the arts programs at Einstein.

Was your child at Eastern? If so, I’d definitely recommend Einstein and the IB program. That’s the path my Eastern student took, and has been happy with the choice.

With some careful course selection and a few summer classes, they’ve been able to do both the IB diploma and take performing arts classes.

Consider transportation, too -- your NEC kid will get a bus to Blake, but not to Einstein.

I'm familiar with the music program at Blake, but not with the specifics of the dance program. However, there is a strong arts focus at the school, and a good vibe overall.

Transportation is a huge factor. We have to drive, no bus and it’s sometime four times a day is there is practice or something else. I don’t think any are that great. They are good but you have to go outside for great.

Dance program is also excellent. Long term committed and very talented staff whom most of the kids just love.

I work at Blake and my DD went to Einstein and I really like both of these schools- you can’t go wrong with either one. They are very different so definitely go and check them out. Blake is the “arts” school of the NEC, but the vibe at Einstein is more creative/artistic, perhaps because of the application program the VAC.. Strong teachers at both places. Good parent communities too. I can’t speak to the dance program, though… sorry.

Good luck, OP!
