How does artificial turf get priority funding and copiers are unplugged?

That's MCPS for you.

Very nice, they over charge for field trips for sports and the turf is only good for 10 years.

I thought the turf fields were paid for by partners who then get to use the fields (RM by Potomac Lacrosse, WJ by Bethesda Soccer, and Einstein by MSI).

I have a HS athlete, and I'm happy he has a turf field to play on. The grass fields ended up with divots (ankle breakers) and big mud puddles where the grass should have been. Also, quite rocky. MCPS doesn't have the funds to take care of nice grass fields (Churchill Booster Club pays for the care of their field)

That was a legal settlement with MSI Soccer when MCPS was sued. That's over. The settlement was only for some of the installation cost. After install, the upkeep and replacement is on MCPS. MCPS doesn't maintain the artificial turf fields either so ankle breakers continue.

Regardless, it's all taxpayer funded, so taxpayers should be aware of where their money is going.

That's background information to give you a history of how turf fields are funded from a variety of source, including field trip money. Yeah.

The 2025 budget is linked in parents coalition so you can see turf fields as a line item in it. Read through it all.

People seem to hate Parents Coalition, but she provides a valuable service for the rest of the county, combing through budgets, filing freedom of information requests, and staying on it to publicize the inequities. I wish field trip money went toward buying pencils, copier paper, and composition notebooks, but evidently, it goes to artificial turf.
