| Can you just retake one semester of a class or do you need to do both? DC is on shaky ground with Pre-cal and really needs many concepts reinforced before taking AP Calc AB next year. Will it look terrible on the transcript? |
| Mine is going to take it at Sidwell this summer. No one but me needs to know she's taking it. |
| You can do just one. I don't think it would look bad, especially if your child gets a higher grade it would replace the lower one. |
| I think if you take the same class twice, the lower grade one is replaced by the higher grade one. |
| Do both classes show up on the final transcript, or is the earlier class with the lower grade taken out of the transcript altogether? |

Don't take it through MCPS. Enroll your child on an online pre-calculus course you pay for. There are plenty of them and just don't report the grade.
Or take an online calculus course over the summer to prepare for taking calculus in the fall. A popular homeschool pre-calc / calc is Derek Owens: https://www.derekowens.com/course_info_precalculus.php You can start any time and pay a monthly fee. You watch videos, have access to tutors if you need them and scan in the homework which is then corrected and sent back. Thinkwell is another one: https://www.thinkwellhomeschool.com/products/calculus |
They both show up on the transcript. |
| I don’t know the answer. But it’s mid-year. Can your student seek out extra help and support at school or consider a tutor? Time to re-study and build a stronger foundation. Good luck! |
Not true. Only once - the one with the highest grade. |
No, they both show up on the transcript. It doesn't overwrite. |
| I review applications. If you can tell a solid story as to why the second take was needed I think that would be ok |
A little bit of different situation but I had the extra class removed from my kids transcript. They retook Algebra in Middle school due to Covid year. Not sure if same for HS. |
What kind of story? DC has been struggling due to adhd and mental health issues but we were told to never mention those things? |
It all depends on the spin. You want to show how self-reflection and how he persevered and took the course for a second time and learned (fill in the blank) |
