Looking at 5th-8th range. Do coach play everyone? Are they upfront when questioned during tryouts? I get that every coach want to win to build their brand, but at the same time, if kids practice hard, they deserve some minutes to develop their game. I would hate to spend all that money to watch my kid warming the bench.
No, coaches don’t play every kid. There is absolutely not the idea of equal playing time, and some kids will get in only for a few minutes or possibly not get in to close games.
It depends. If the club fields several teams, the lower tiered teams will play everyone.
It depends on the team. The younger you get, the more likely coaches are to give everyone at least a few minutes

No, the playing time can be a real issue. My kids were never starters, and for them the best teams were those where kids play other sports, and your kid will play non stop on Sunday mornings because there are only 5 players. Now, these are not the teams with division 1 recruited players, but it worked for my kids, who got so much better with this much court time and are now in high school playing.
My big tip is to observe some games and see how the bench is utilized.
Look for a team that picks only 10 players max. It's rare but there are a few of them.
The problem with those teams is you never have enough kids to run a practice where you can go 5 on 5 to work on plays and game situations. Even getting enough together to learn plays can be a problem |
