please recommend your solution. DS basketball shoes have the foulest smell right now. |
Two new pairs, alternate between the two day to day. |
Dryer sheets overnight |
Artificial fabrics retain smell - that includes sneakers. I'd keep several pairs on rotation, wash them regularly in the washer and dryer, and have him wear cotton socks too. |
Tea bags. My kids basketball shoes were awful and made their whole room reek. Some on their team suggested tea bags and they really seem to work. We have since bought a second pair so that they never wear the same pair two days in a row. That gives them a chance to dry out between uses. |
A shoe dryer. Wash the shoes in the sink or a machine, then dry them on the shoe dryer. You can also put them on the shoe dryer if they’re just wet from being outside or sweaty if they’re not yet stinky. But when they’re already stinky, wash them. Use just tide or try Hex if the stink is really persistent.
The shoe dryer is key because it’s so much faster and easier than the dryer. Just pick one from Amazon, I think they’re pretty much all the same. |
The tea bags are just absorbing moisture and maybe adding a little scent. A shoe dryer would be more effective. |
When my kids shoes get really gross I just wash them in the washer and let air dry. In between washings we use Silly Feet spray. I bought it for my younger kid but started using it on everyone’s shoes and it works. |
There is a shoe fogger that comes in a green and black spray container that works better than anything else I’ve tried. |
Just and FYI, you aren't supposed to put basketball shoes in a washing machine
DO NOT use a washing machine or dryer. It will cause damage. https://www.adidas.com/us/blog/342724-how-to-clean-basketball-shoes First things first: Nike does not recommend washing shoes in the washing machine. https://www.nike.com/si/a/can-you-put-shoes-in-the-washer |
If they have removable insoles, get 2-3 pairs and handwash the insoles between wearings. If not, then get 2 pairs of shoes your kid can alternate between. Also make sure they're not kept in an enclosed bag all day. My kid has a Nike string bag. There is one side that is mesh to allow sweaty things to breathe. |
Someone on here once recommended Dr scholls Odor X spray (got on Amazon) and I think it does work. At least it’s cut down on the stench in my mud room. |
Better socks!! |
DC also has funky feet. We spray athlete's foot spray in them pretty regularly. We also put her shoes and insoles out in the sun to kill the funk (a bit difficult to do in winter). If you can swing a second pair or rotate/wash insoles. |
“On your toes” powder from Amazon will solve the problem |
