Summer School - Health A

Anonymous
For Summer School how frequently does the Health A class meet online? Is it daily for the 3 weeks? We are trying to figure out travel plans and the ability to do the class while away for one week.

They meet 2-3 times a week. Here's last year's schedule: https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/extendedhours/summerschool/courses/

does anyone have any sense of when it will start this year?

It we’ll be hard to do the class while traveling. In addition to the mandatory zoom calls there is a lot of work. Like a few hours a day with multiple assignments due, some lengthy.

There are other threads on this, but a tentative schedule was proposed recently: https://go.boarddocs.com/mabe/mcpsmd/Board.nsf/files/CZB3NK7E7787/$file/FY2025%20Summer%20Programs%20240111%20REV%202.pdf

Three times a week for 1.5 hours I think?

It seems earlier this year than past years, no? I remember when my kid took Health A in the first semester, it was around July 4th.

When will we know this timeframe will be approved?

Our kid was able to handle it while traveling.

I hope to sign up my kid. All we need is 100% virtual, and a good wifi connection. Is there word on whether Health B will also be offered?

My kid did it in summer school and it was so incredibly painful. It’s several hours a day of just mind numbingly boring stuff. I felt so bad for her. I wish there was a way to just test out of the requirement or substitute something like AP bio or anatomy or something vaguely interesting.

+1million. Unbearable few weeks. Who comes up with the Health curriculum? Oh right, MCPS.

In hindsight did you kids wish they would have taken it during the school year or were the painful 3 weeks worth getting it out of the way? Trying to discuss options with mines before making a decision.

If it’s as terrible as people say I’m just going to do some of the work for my kid. He’ll be outside working all day in the sun and will have real summer work for other classes. What a waste of time. Flame away.

My 10th grader is taking it during the school year this year, and I've heard no complaints about the course content. It's an easy class, which is nice to have during the school day.

It's not on the agenda for the 2/6 meeting, so possibly the next meeting after that on 2/22?
