Furnace and AC

I know we are supposed to change furnace filters and get tuneups. But what about the fan box thing sitting in the backyard? Am I supposed to get it cleaned? Should it be covered or vacuumed regularly protect from excess pine needles and cobwebs and dust?

I live in a snowy cold climate. Am I supposed to cover it? I do hate how it looks. Could I build a white decorative vented box to cover it 24/7?

This is another dumb question. Do you stick vacuum hoses down your heating registers to vacuum it out? I have stand alone air purifiers and the company insists it must be vacuumed every few weeks. I don’t get how we can just let hot and cold air blow around the house.
