Has anything gone through this process and can provide an overview?
Also, people who want to call me names for doing this are welcome to sound off below, but I won’t bother reading your comments. But go ahead and show how little you value your time if you want. |

Instructions are here. If your weapon is already registered you do not need to pay the $13 to re register it. https://dcgov.seamlessdocs.com/f/InstructionsForConcealedCarryPistolLicenseApplication Take the online course: https://mpdc.dc.gov/page/firearms-safety-training-course Complete 16 hours of training by an MPD certified instructor. Complete 2 hours of range training by an MPD certified instructor. https://mpdc.dc.gov/page/concealed-carry-firearms-training-instructors-certified-mpd The process is pretty simple. Just time consuming. There are waivers available for the training but not the online course. You can see if you are eligible for a waiver. |
My spouse navigated it. It can be done. There are a few nonsensical parts (this being DC) like how to get your unpermitted gun to the place that issues permits - but it can be done. Just follow all the steps carefully and ask questions . |
And I'm probably using the wrong terminology, but just saying there were a few head scratchers because this is DC...and well, youve likely dealt with our various agencies before. There can be some weird loops . |

1. If you are buying a firearm, that is a separate process from obtaining a concealed pistol license.
2. I don’t believe the online class is required for the concealed pistol license, because that material is covered by the 16 hour in person training. 3. You no longer need to transport your firearm to the office to register it. 4. If you are a non-DC resident you still need to register your firearm when you go to get fingerprinted. 5. Allow plenty of time. No one is in a hurry for your benefit. As noted, if you read the MPDC pages the process is pretty straightforward. You need to make your appointment online. |
Online class is required and not able to be waivered. That is the entire reason it is required. Because there are several options to get waivered, so the online class was developed. |
The online class relates to purchase/registration of a firearm by a DC resident. https://mpdc.dc.gov/page/complete-firearms-registration-procedures#:~:text=This%20requirement%20can%20be%20met,of%20the%20Firearms%20Registration%20Branch. The training for a concealed pistol license is (1) in person; (2) significantly longer; and (3) covers the same material as the online course, and hence would satisfy the registration training requirements in and of itself. |
| Move to a state with constitutional concealed carry? |
| Love to see DC go constitutional carry....that would make the DC commies head explode. |
DC commies, as in 95% of the population |
