Mirror backsplash in kitchen

Anonymous
This has been done quite a bit in the UK but I can’t say that I have seen it done here in the US as much. I have a small space behind my gas range that I am considering having this done. Does anyone here have one or have seen one in person? Does it feel/look weird or awkward?

If you like it, do it. it is only backsplash.

My only fear would be that moisture will cause the mirror to deteriorate around the edges.

What about just a glass backsplash? With a color behind it.

I thought about this but DH isn’t a fan unfortunately.

It is kind of cool and would brighten a space.

I really wanted to do this or a backpainted glass but the cost was astronomical because the glass had to be tempered (or so I was told). I was also warned that unless all my counters were clear, I was just reflecting my clutter.

We did this years ago in a bungalow kitchen. My mother-in-law also has it in her fancy Bethesda condo. I think it is clean, classic, and bright, and it doesn't date a kitchen like so many other backsplashes do.

Do you have any issues behind the stove assuming the mirror is behind the stove?

Op here. Thanks for replying. I haven’t had a quote yet. Your post about the cost is a bit scary. Did you go with tile and what would you say was the difference in cost?

Op here. Thanks so much. I am really hoping that it will brighten my kitchen. I was afraid that it might look dated so I am happy to hear that you find it classic.

Wouldn't a mirror behind the stove get stained with grease? While maybe I should be cleaning my backsplash behind the stove, I don't with any regularity. I would think you'd have to use Windex on it every day???

That’s what I’m hoping!

Unfortunately, yes. This would require a wipe down every day. I am up to it.

I would hate that. And looking at myself while sweating over the stove. But maybe it would encourage me to "freshen up" more at home rather than throw in my rattiest clothes that I don't mind staining with sauce and throwing my hair in a ponytail.

I see this often on UK and Aus home reno shows. I absolutely LOVE the look, my concern would always be how to keep it clean! I would hate to see streaks and the like. Just yesterday I saw one that had a bronze mirror backsplash (splashback as they call it) and it was so beautiful. Also great for smaller or darker spaces as it helps reflect the light.
