Language Placement Testing?

My kid is transferring into MCPS next year. He speaks, reads, and writes decent Spanish, but he didn't learn it in school. He would like to take some kind of test to see what level he should go into. Is that possible? Or do we just pick? I have a pretty good idea what level he would probably test into, but I doubt they'll just let us pick without evidence.

Do you know how? Is it possible for him to take it now so he can register for the right courses, rather than guessing and then having to rebuild his schedule after everything is full?

Reach out to your high school language instructors. They will give a placement test. My DC just took one recently.
