Used cars

Would you buy a used car through Hertz for 14k and 55k miles on it, 3 years old? I want to spend as little as possible as it's just for a spare local car. There is a Kia Soul, a small Ford SUV...DH says buying older will mean more repairs but I really don't want to spend 30k on a new car and there is almost nothing under that price range. I would love to buy through someone, but Facebook is fishy and I don't know anyone selling.

I think there are good deals to be had and you can avoid the hassle of haggling and dealing with a questionable buyer. That being said, rental car companies do not have to report collisions to carfax because they fix the cars themselves. So it’s possible you will get a car that has had damage. You can get it inspected and ask the mechanic to check that all the vin’s on all the parts match and look for signs of repair. Also, when you buy the car, the fact that it was a rental will be in its carfax history, lowering the resale. Rental cars are often not treated kindly, so that is the caveat.

What so special about buying from Hertz? You can buy a used 3 yr/ 50 k miles Kia Soul for 14k from a local dealer. And it won’t be a beat up rental

Not near me. We have been looking for a while. They don't really have that type of used inventory (aside from the really shady places), and Carmax is way more even for very used.

I would buy a 3 year old 55k miles Kia. They have 5 year/ 60k miles bumper to bumper and 10/100 power train warranty
