fafsa fiasco - I think 2025 is going to pay (or benefit?)

now that FAFSA is being delayed and delayed, schools won't be able to get their FA offers out, their yield prediction models will be way off, and they're likely to under enroll or over enroll. CSS schools also need FAFSA bcs the feds require that for pell kids. And profile schools care a lot about the pell number at that school only bcs they can be sure it will be included in a potentially damning article in the NYT or WashPo a year from now. (They don't actually care about pell kids on campus, they just want their numbers to grow .. ever slightly).

I wonder about the downstream effects. Parents of current juniors would be wise to look at school individually this fall to see what schools will have fewer beds to fill in fall 2025 and which will have a lot more.

What is happening with FAFSA? I have a current junior, so not exactly sure what I would be looking at to determine which schools have more or fewer beds to fill in Fall 2025.

Eagerly anticipating problems? For now, nothing bad has happened, OP. FAFSA is delayed a bit. Odds are it will all turn out fine.

Does the delay help full-pay families?

google FAFSA delay, e.g. https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/personalfinance/colleges-won-t-receive-fafsa-data-until-march-here-s-what-that-means-for-students/ar-BB1hviy1

The CSS has much more information than the FAFSA. So I think CSS schools are probably just going forward almost as usual. But I think many state schools only require FAFSA... those might have a lot of glitches this spring.

Well there you go then. Decisions aren't until May 1st, and perhaps this year they can push that back a bit. None of this is a problem.

AOs are the ones who are outraged on socials. But I’m sure you know better.

A lot of schools have dorms that fill up fast. You have to put down your enrollment deposit, as well as your housing deposit, in order to sign up for housing. This could shut a student out of housing.

Considering they usually have this info in October and then rolling in after that, this will be a shitshow. Heads should roll. I also don’t trust mid March. They said it would open in October. Then December. Then before the end of the year. It was opened for 2 hours on NYE.

I'm curious: are there any EA/ED families in DCUM-land whose decisions/acceptances were severely impacted by FAFSA delays? Were any schools unable to make offers? And if they did make offers, how did they do it (especially if they didn't traditionally use CSS)?

This seems like a pretty big problem, actually.
