The Foundation School - Gaithersburg

Anonymous
Hi, does anyone have experience with The Foundation School in Gaithersburg? We are new to the area and looking for a private school for my 15 y.o. ASD daughter. She is on the diploma track but needs intensive emotional support.

Hmmm....it used to be for the kids with really severe conduct issues around 5 years ago. Not sure what the current population looks like

I would choose RICA over Foundation. Has your child been denied?

It was one of the referred schools for my then 8 yr old. We toured it around 5 years ago. At the time, it seemed it was a holding facility with no real academics. I was glad not to end up there.

Does your daughter already have an IEP?

Was it recommended through CIEP? Where are you in the process?

OP here. DD already has an IEP. It was one of the referrals we got from CIEP. We haven’t heard back from any schools yet but the location fits our needs. We did not get a referral to RICA.

I would ask your placement specialist why RICA was ruled out. Obviously take a tour, but I’d be very hesitant to go to Foundation. What other schools was she referred to? Remember, you’ll get door to door bussing, so don’t let location rule your decision.

OP here. Other referrals were to Laurel Hall and St Elizabeth’s in Baltimore.

Ability to engage in insight oriented cognitive therapy might have been too low for Rica
