MC2 at Northwood

Anonymous
Any parents care to weigh in on their kid's experiences? Interested in hearing about the cohort, teachers, workload, and curriculum. Do the MC2 kids only take classes with each other?

It looks like an appealing program but I am hesitant because kids will be bussed to Woodward.

Thanks in advance.

Are you worried about the long commute?

Current senior parent so my kid is taking MC classes full time after the two years of hybrid. Overall very positive experience.

For the first three years, your child will take classes with all other Northwood students except for the MC classes and 10th grade social studies AP classes because they are scheduled to match MC classes. We actually liked this because our kid wasn’t separated although 9th grade AP history is mostly students interested in MC.

The principal and administration is very strong at Northwood. The MC coordinator is great but sometimes has to be reminded to respond to an email.

Our bigger complaint has been the quality of control for MC professors and the school has no control over that. Like any college, some are fantastic and some are terrible. It’s actually an authentic college experience. Some students being the science pathway over general studies take summer classes and they cost money but these are kids taking Orgo Chem as high schoolers! Huge benefits for pre-med.

I can’t sympathize with the holding school because my kid will be gone but Northwood desperately needs that new building so it might be worth it. Email the principal and ask him questions. He is a lightning fast responder.

I recommend. My kid has thrived.

Some kids thrive but many flame out.
MC teachers are a mixed bag.

Thanks very much PPs.

That's great that the principal is so responsive. I got good impression of him at the Open House.
