Brain fart or something more

I hate the term brain fart, but I can’t think of a better way to say it—

Do you ever completely forget how to spell a word. An easy word, like the letters do not make sense as I’m typing.

I tried to text gross to my brother and couldn’t think of how to spell it. Tried grouse, and I knew that wasn’t correct, but I had to stop, take a few seconds for my brain to restart before I could spell gross.

migraine perhaps?

COVID brain. Mine has gotten better but I've never been the same since COVID. I will sometimes turn the faucet in the wrong direction or can't remember simple words, and it's as if my mind is blank for a second. Scary.

This happened to me quite regularly for about a year. I had severe sleep apnea and didn't know it. I was severely sleep deprived and had no idea that was the problem.

Periomenopause for sure

Oh yeah, these are important so I can remember to freak out that it’s early onset something.

Yes late 40s here happens to me.

I'm 43 and while I don't really think this is early onset dementia, it doesn't sometimes feel like it! Similar things happen to me, in the realm of spelling, retrieving words while talking, and switching between my two native languages. My teens are noticing. Blech.

Maybe I should have a sleep apnea test. I've often wondered if I had that. Or it's just perimenopause?

Happened once? Nbd. Happening routinely? I’d look at sleep apnea like the pp or neurological cause.

OP here, maybe it is perimenopause. All of my labs are fine. I’ve also had blips where I can hear my husband talking but the words he is saying do not make sense. I just figured I was over worked, and my mind was tired. No actual migraines though. My sleep tracker says I’m getting solid sleep.

I went through a period of about a month where I'd sign into my federal building daily (they made an error on the ID/I had to wait for a new one) and I couldn't sign my name correctly. I had to sign it backwards (like starting at the end of each name and working my way forward) because if I didn't, it couldn't compute, and starting at the front of each name, I could only start backwards- hard to explain. I was so worried I told my husband, but suddenly the issue went away. I've had it here and there with a spelling or simple question where I answer it then the next day am like 'why did I say that-it's not correct'. It's frustrating as my memory has always been really good (I actually have a partial photographic memory) so if you can't count on yourself who can you count on. Since Covid too.

This sounds like a small stroke.

I would go to the ER - you don’t want to take a chance with a stroke or brain injury
