| I really want one ... |
|
If you are a hard core reader, I think it's totally worth it. I have a Nook, but they are pretty similar. I love mine. Instead of buying 4 or 6 books at the store now to read and then pile on bookshelves, I've got everything in one place. A way to take 10 new books with me on vacation if I want without loading down the luggage. If you read at lunch (like I do) and you finish a book, no problem if you forgot to bring another. You've got it with you, or can shop and download as you like.

| Oh the lunch thing -- perfect! Thanks. |
| Absolutely. I love mine - and it has actually cut down on how much I spend on books due to being able to read the first couple chapters of a book before buying it. Don't know how many books I've decided not to buy because of that. |
| Yes!!! I love mine. Only buy it if you really want a dedicated reader though. Don't think the internet features are going to wow you - they are pretty pathetic. But if you read a lot and want a convenient, portable way to read and store books a kindle is fantastic! |
| I'm on the fence. I read a lot, but I also go to the library for my books. The Kindle would be convenient, but I'd be paying a lot for that convenience considering I rarely buy books. |

Many many books are not available on the kindle... bestsellers, yes. but if you're into foreign literature, tough luck, those guys are not available on kindle.
|
| I read a ton and I LOVE my kindle but the one thing I miss is a good way to browse for books. Yes, there is a store and yes they do recommend books for you but I find that I have to spend some time on the internet to really find new books. |
This is exactly how I feel, and I've decided against it for the time being. |
Agreed. I live in Fairfax county and I probably read 4-5 books per month, all from the library. I'd read sooo much less if I had to purchase every book I read! And such a waste - I don't want to read most of them a second time. |
| It is awesome if you do most of your reading on Metro. When you finish a book in the middle of your commute, you can have another one loaded and waiting, or you can buy a new one on the spot. What I love is how easy it is to hold it while you're standing on a crowded car, and you can easily move between pages with one hand. I'm just pissed that the price has dropped so much since the end of last year, which is when I bought it. |
| It's on another recent thread, but if you get the Nook or Sony e-reader, you can borrow books from the library. |
| If you read a lot of classics you can get all of those free. Anything not under copyright you can find free. |
| LOVE my Kindle. For all the reasons everyone has already mentioned. I was never a library person, so I feel like it's been worth it not to spend full price on books anymore (and to have the option of reading the first couple of chapters to decide whether I want to buy). |

I'd only get it if I read enough to make it worthwhile, and if I did a lot of traveling.
Otherwise, I'd just stick to real books and the local library. |
