Dyslexia Screening

Is it true that there’s a dyslexia screening in 2nd grade?

Do they also test for dysgraphia and dysnumeria as well?

Thx!

There is a dyslexia screener as part of MAP-P I believe. It will not diagnose dyslexia. MCPS is unlikely to diagnose dyslexia at all-they will call it a specific learning disability in the area of reading. There is no screening for dysgraphia and dysnumeria in the schools. If you want a diagnosis for any of these you will need to get one privately and share it with the school.

I agree with prior poster about getting testing outside of school. We used Stixrud group but there are others. Regarding getting a diagnosis in Specific Learning Disability in Reading Comprehension, I agree it's important to get proper diagnosis. My DS was not diagnosed with Dyslexia but Specific Learning Disability in Reading Comprehension and ADHD. We have been advocating for an IEP at school as opposed to just a 504. We have tried different tutors with limited improvement. We recently started working with a reading/dyslexia specialist in hopes of improvement while still advocating for IEP services.

No one complains about all the special programs, their kid's specific scores and their competitiveness on this forum. 🙄

They're asking a general question. Is there a screener or not.
