| How does admissions work? Test scores? Rec letters? Is there a lottery component? What’s the acceptance rate? |
| About 900 apply for 100 spots. Not a lottery. They consider math, science and comp science grades in 7th and 8th, spring 7th grade and fall 8th grade MAP-M (the higher of the two) and responses to a short essay prompt and the shorter prompts re achievements. |
| Three shorter prompts (not the) |
Thank you!! Any idea of how many they accept? Can folks apply from private schools? |
They accept around 100 (sometimes two or three more) but have very little waitlist movement. And yes, you can apply from private and many do, some successfully. |
| Is there any boost given to kids who live in bounds? |
No |

“The review committee based its decision on a variety of factors including standardized test scores, report cards and the student's personal statements and submissions. The committee feels that all factors taken together give a broad view of the student without emphasizing any one indicator too strongly.”
Interestingly, the bolded phrase was in a slightly different font size the way gmail changes your text when you have pasted something in from the clipboard. I wonder if MCPS had to change their previous language due to Supreme Court decisions on affirmative action at Harvard etc. Anyone have a rejection email from a year or two ago? |
| It was the same last year - that part was in a different font and size. |
