How does admissions work? Test scores? Rec letters? Is there a lottery component? What’s the acceptance rate?

About 900 apply for 100 spots. Not a lottery. They consider math, science and comp science grades in 7th and 8th, spring 7th grade and fall 8th grade MAP-M (the higher of the two) and responses to a short essay prompt and the shorter prompts re achievements.

Thank you!! Any idea of how many they accept? Can folks apply from private schools?

They accept around 100 (sometimes two or three more) but have very little waitlist movement. And yes, you can apply from private and many do, some successfully.

Interestingly, the bolded phrase was in a slightly different font size the way gmail changes your text when you have pasted something in from the clipboard.

I wonder if MCPS had to change their previous language due to Supreme Court decisions on affirmative action at Harvard etc. Anyone have a rejection email from a year or two ago?

It was the same last year - that part was in a different font and size.
