I'm 8 weeks after an embryo transfer and I'm still on estrogen and progesterone. Also on metformin for PCOS.
I've been having diarrhea like crazy and since fet the smell is different. TMI but slightly sweet? No fever and not exactly 10-15 times a day like Google suggests mainly just after eating. I know pio is supposed to back you up. But maybe the metformin is counter acting that especially bc all I can stomach right now is carbs on carbs. I let Google tell me it's c.diff and now I'm freaked out |
| I hear metformin makes some people go #2 a lot so maybe that’s it? |
| My son had a c diff infection when he was 13 and it was awful. I hope, for your sake, that’s not your issue. |
I had c diff and was very sick with high fever. I doubt that you have c diff but why don't you go to the doctor instead of asking on anonymous chat room. C diff is serious. |
|
FWIW: When my BIL got c diff he literally blew up the bathroom. It was everywhere, and he was too weak to clean it up and his DS had to. It got so bad within a day or two that he passed out from dehydration and had to be hospitalized. It was the beginning of the end for him -- he died not to long after.
If you are posting on DCUM that you "let Google tell [you] it's c diff" instead of lying weak on the floor in your bathroom covered in something so foul you might never un-smell it, you are probably fine. |
| I had c.diff and while it wasn’t as dramatic as PP, it took three rounds of ever increasing antibiotics to get rid of it. There’s no ha getting tested, other than the indignity of stool samples! |
| C diff is NOT sweet smelling |
|
Nurse here. One of the biggest complaints I hear about Metformin is the diarrhea.
Not all C-Diff infections are as bad as what 2159 describes. C-Diff isn't sweet smelling, it has a very distinctive scent. But I think smells are very hard to describe sometimes so I wouldn't go off of that. The "good" news is that a C-Diff test is pretty simple. A stool sample is needed and then you just wait for the results. I'd call your doc in the AM. It is really the only way you'll get a concrete answer. |
Thank you! Which Dr would I ask about this? We have a 4 week wait to see our ob- new patient and we just graduated from our fertility center so I don't think they will help. Is this a PCP or Endo call? |
I'd call both. PCP can do the stool sample and will probably be quickest. But I'd also want to let the endo know since I imagine that is who is managing your Metformin. With how crazy busy practices are, I'd want to reach out to both know. If it turns out to be C-diff, well your PCP can manage it. If it turns out not to be C-Diff, at least your endo already knows the problem going on. |
| Dumb question but how does one collect a sample? At home? Can't cane exactly time these things with office visits. Genuinely curious |
They give you a collection kit. And yes, you do it at home. |

Op do you have the following?
Three or more watery stools a day. Symptoms lasting more than two days. A new fever. Severe belly pain or cramping. Blood in your stool. |
