| DD is a rising 9th grader. She's very nervous about French 2. She's doing OK in French 1 (92/A-). Any tips or resources on how best to prepare or at a minimum not lose what you learned in French 1. Writing is the hardest area for her. |
| OP here. I hit send too soon. Looking for what she can do over the coming summer. |
| First thought would be just to keep up some practice on their own schedule with YouTube, apps like DuoLingo, etc. |
| Start planning that summer trip to France. |
|
Duolingo is great although it won't help with writing.
Find an Outschool class? |
that's the difficult part |
We did an Outschool German class a couple of years ago -- gave kid a set schedule and was actually kinda fun! |
| You might ask a local university if they have a French major who would work with her. All of the kids will lose some ground over the summer. |
|
If your kid has that grade, they will be ok in French 2 in the fall. Second year of a language is not rocket science. All kids get a little rusty. All world language teachers know this. Let them enjoy the summer!

| Send her to France, exchange program. |
| We did outschool for DD. She liked it. She doesn’t get to speak her language with kids her own age often so it was a nice change of pace. Also, there are language summer camps. |
| Can you do a trip to Quebec, language camp, etc? DuoLingo, formal classes, and the like are a very dry way to learn a language. If you have the means, expose her to immersion. That will help her develop creative, dynamic language use. |
She's the one who is worried. She told me she doesn't think she will be ready. It could be HS angst but she seemed to focus on French and none of her other classes. It may also be that our neighbor said they French 2 teacher is a stickler and very strict. |
| The Alliance Francias (forgive me my phone sucks with accents) in DC may have a high school summer program. |
+1 of course this falls on deaf ears to most posters here. |
