My 8th daughter really enjoys soccer, but has been really active in winter track.
Could she play soccer and also run track at her HS in the spring in 9th grade? She would be in Loudoun. I told her to just do Winter track, but she was curious. |

How would any of us know without knowing the soccer match schedule vs the track meet schedule? You'd need that, and IF they don't conflict, how would we know how the track coach feels about missing practice every day? You can assume the soccer coach will not allow her to miss soccer practice.
Also, we don't know your daughter's academic ability. Does she care about grades? And we don't know how you/her/the coaches feel about over training. Her body may not be able to handle it. |
| No, you can't do it in public school. |
| Most conferences/leagues don’t allow it |
|
probably not but at least in FCPS- you can participate in 3 sports a year (usually 1 per season) but I know 2 kids who are both excellent athletes who participate in 2 varsity sports in one season but have to give up participation in another season.
She could do winter track and spring soccer as an alternative. |
|
She could not do both sports for her HS.
In my FCPS sports district, spring track meets are Wednesday evenings. My DS also plays rec soccer with a group of friends on Saturdays. |

At our FCPS high school, I"ve known several kids who have done two sports in the same season:
Football and golf Swim and basketball Indoor track and swim Swim and gymnastics I also know one student who played football and was in the marching band. I personally don't know anyone who did soccer and another sport at our high school, it's the one sport that I would be surprised would work at our high school. We're at one of the FCPS high schools that has a very large FARMS rate and students can walk onto almost any team, except soccer and basketball. |
|
The only ones I've seen are a couple of soccer players who were the kicker for the football team.
You could always ask, but I think it's unlikely they'd say yes. She could do cross-country in the fall. |
My kid does LAX and spring track, doesn’t attend track practices, good runner who qualifies for states so coach gives flexibility |
| Just be upfront with whichever team or coach will come second so they are aware |
This is the key point- they allow it for the athlete who qualifies for states. |
The marching band performs at half time- how would that even work? |

Totally do-able, depending on the high school coaches involved. Especially if one of the sports is track and she's doing an individual event.
One of the girls on our winter team (high schoo) also runs indoor track (same season). The track coach lets her skip most practices but it does mean that she has districts and regionals next week for the 2 different sports. Track is also a 3 season sport (cross country, indoor, then outdoor track) so she also doesn't have to double-up on one season unless she wants to. But we are in a different DMV county. |
