was it so called "Slay" to fail classes when you went to school?

What ever happen to getting good grades?
I remember when I went to school, I didn't like getting good grades, now kids are happy and showing up all over Tiktok when they fail a class... When did this come about?
I graduated from high school in 2002, and my daughter thinks is funny because she got D for this marking period in Algebra 1A. She said all over Tiktok everyone is getting 20s and 10s% now...

I guess I am old, but slay used to mean getting lucky with a girl. Now it means doing nothing at all...

I have no idea what you're on about.

Sounds like a deflection from embarrasment though.

In my world it means to stake a vampire. Especially if you're named Buffy.

If your kids have TikTok go though their FYP, Most the kids on TiTok think is funny that they are failing classes, and "SLAY" MEANS COOL i THINk.

I also graduated in 2002, so no one was using the word "slay" like that. Back then, there were some kids who thought bad grades were a joke and some kids who cared about doing well, just like now. Do you think that in 2002 all kids cared about getting good grades?

Actually, it's cool to be smart and get good grades in my sons' groups of friends (7th grade and 9th grade).

I went to Sherwood, I bet 50% did.

Sounds like your daughter is hanging with the wrong crowd on TikTok.

Not to be mean but clearly she should be spending more time studying and less time on TikTok. Algebra is foundational for all math (except geometry) that comes next and some science. Please get on top of this.

To be perfectly honest, being happy or excited or bragging about getting bad grades in any era is a bad sign. I got a D in math a few quarters because it was legitimately hard and I joked about it with friends in similar situations but I was upset and ashamed about it, and never would have publicized it.

It’s MCPS, no one is getting 10% or 20%.

So lots didn't. This is life, some kids don't care about getting good grades. If you'd like your daughter not to be one of them, you'll need to do some parenting.

You understand that FYP stands for "For YOU page" right? It caters to the individual based on an algorithm. I do not get that kind of content on my FYP, and neither does my kid, because we don't linger, like, or interact with the kind of content you describe. Your kid is obviously engaging with the losers failing classes, so getting more of that content pushed onto their feed.

Pretty sure slay is being used incorrectly here.

Anywho, I have immigrant parents so it was an A or bust. They were the only ones that I cared about when it came to grades.
