9 year old DD angry all the time

Anonymous
We've been working for 3 years on various therapies and doctors with my 9 year old daughter. She started Intuniv and it's helped a bit with regulating her. She's been diagnosed with ODD and mild ADHD. We tried a few other ADHD meds to go with the intuniv and they all had disastrous results. She's always finding something to complain about, does nothing to help around the house or do any chores, is addicted to screens, she never wants to do anything with us on the weekend if it doesn't involve a friend, she says no to everything I ask her to do, she gets angry and throws thing when she doesn't get her way. I can go on and on. We have tried to find her a therapist to go along with the Psychologist but have not found anyone yet. We've also tried different types of meds to go along with the intuniv but have not found the right combo. Any advice, or hope would be welcome, we're at our wits end.

Responded to your other thread on the same topic. My son developed these behaviors on Intuniv and had to stop taking it.

I would cut out screens entirely in your case. It will likely be hEL! for a couple of weeks, but I'd do it anyway.

And I'd make some things non-negotiable, like 15 minutes of a walk together, a game, etc.

I don't mean to be simplistic, but what all have you tried as far as discipline, etc.

Try cutting gluten from diet. Seriously huge difference.

I think you would get more answers on this if it were posted in the Special Needs forum. Way more parents of ADHDers there.

As PP said some kids react badly to some ADHD meds - it's a trial and error process.

Also emotional dysregulation is a big part of ADHD - some kids need an anti depressant (my DS took Zoloft) and some kids do well on a mon-stimulant like atomoxetine.
