Couldn’t have aspirated?

Anonymous
Was eating dinner when a spoonful of spicy soup broth started going down the wrong pipe, so to speak. I quickly coughed it up but struggled due to the spice. Eventually I was able to take a cleansing breath, got up to blow my nose and collect myself, and thought all was well. It’s been about an hour and now I’m intermittently having phlegmy, productive coughs, the kind where when you breath in you have that crackle sound until you cough it up. Do I need to be concerned?

That’s overkill. Just call nurse at your doctors office to ask

You weaponized hot sauce. It will take a while for things to normalize. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

Is OP dead?

I would just check with the nurse at the your doctor's office. Also, you need to re-think spice. It can contribute to bad reflux and many of us have to give up spicy food in middle age.

The same thing happened to me just a couple of days ago. The more I coughed, the worse it got. I think the subsequent cough was from irritation, and not from something you possibly inhaled. Once I calmed down and stopped trying to "cough it out", things improved very much
