What critters do you keep alive?

I have some dairy kefir grains that I've kept going for two years now that I'm rather fond of. They are a part of my daily routine just like watering the houseplants.

I've managed to kill off sourdough starters twice though since the pandemic started; I think I just don't bake enough for it to be worth all the flour mess every day or so.

Do you have a yogurt strain, sourdough starter, kombucha scoby, etc? How often do you use them and how long have they been going?

Interesting! I’ve never made kimchi, but I thought you were supposed to eat it within a month? I’m totally clueless though.
And is it like yogurt, where you add a little to each batch to keep a strain going? Or is it more like pickling?

Chickens. We eat them. I also make my own yogurt and sour dough starter.
