Hi. I’m looking to buy a weighted vest or belt for osteoporosis. My doctor suggested to start at a very low weight and build up. Any specific product recommendations or experiences to share? |
Im interested too, but as a woman does anyone know of a weighted waste that doesnt fall on your breasts--its very uncomortable and not great as it furthers the sag LOL |
sorry meant vest |
I wear a 12lb weighted vest when I go on my walks.
This is the one I purchased: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07518RBH2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1&psc=1 |
Isn’t this bad on your knees? |
How? You're not running with it on, you're walking. You need pressure/weight on your actual skeleton in order for your bones to stay strong. |
Kilogear |
How does it feel, breast wise? |
How do you find the experience to be? Has it increased your fitness or weight management? |
I have been told by a top orthopedic surgeon the fastest way to need surgery is wearing anything weighted on you while exercising. |
PP here with the 12lb vest. It doesn't bother me at all. At first I had to adjust the vest so that it sat on my shoulders correctly, then once I got that down it was fine. When I wear it it's usually during my 4+ mile walks which includes a lot of stairs and hills. I am exhausted by the end of it, but it's a good feeling. I don't feel any soreness afterwards either. Over time it does improve your overall cardio health, along with bone health. |
your surgeon needs to go back to medical school. do they realize that lifting weights is basically "wearing something weighted while exercising" - so that's bad for you too? let me guess - HE also thinks women shouldn't swim while on their periods, or that women get bulky from lifting weights. he's one of those, I can tell. |
You are one angry commenter. The problem with wearing a weighted vest comes in when you have a weak spine and are prone to compression fractures. I’m 52 and I’ve had several. It seems like a great idea to wear a weighted vest, but it just doesn’t suit everyone. |
Context matters. You clearly are lacking the context that supported the surgeon's statement. |
How does my reply sound "angry" to you? I'm stating facts, and my opinions. Also PP didn't say anything about have a compression fracture. obviously in this case no, you shouldn't be wearing one. PP said "top orthopedic surgeon the fastest way to need surgery is wearing anything weighted on you while exercising", that is a context-less statement which sounds really dumb coming out of a doctor's mouth. |
