Infertility Support and Discussion
What did your RE recommend? It's unclear, from the general stats they offer for over 40 patients, how many embryos it took to receive those birth rates...
I was told at least two on Day 5.
SG follows ASRM guidelines for age and transfer day to determine the number to transfer, assuming you have at least that many embryos available to transfer. My RE encouraged me to transfer less than the guideline on a day 3 transfer (3 instead of 5), but did transfer the maximum blastocysts (3) on a day 5 transfer. The decision on number to transfer is made just before your transfer and will depend largely on your embryo quality and your RE recommendation. Most REs there tend to be conservative when it comes to number to transfer, so definitely discuss with your RE before transfer day if you want to transfer a larger number.

My experience is that your doctor at SG will make a recommendation specific to your situation. At age 40 I transferred 3 on day 3 and had success.
Also try not to get caught up on the day 3 versus day 5 thing. I had a day 5 transfer at 39 of 2 blasts and ended up having a m/c. The 3 day is the one that worked. So you just never know. |
I transferred 3 on day 3 and also had success. No reason to go to day 5 b/c I only had three anyway.
