| Dealing with failed implant that oral surgeon has tried to save twice with multiple bone grafts. Feeling defeated and concerned because pretty sure latest attempt is failing again. I did not cheap out as it was $$ and a very highly rated and recommended surgeon. At the point where I need a second opinion. Who is the BEST oral surgeon/implant doctor out there? Willing to pay and travel for a 2nd opinion. |
| Dr Watkins Mclean. Very expensive but if I had a complicated implant I would go to him. |
| I would recommend seeing Dr Eugene Oh at Vienna Perio. |
| Those things are toxic anyway. You dodged a bullet. Just get rid of it. |
It’s a titanium bone screw bone head. Those have been used forever. |

Rare complications. |
How long ago was the initial implant placed? Did you have time between implant removal, bone graft and second post? Do you have any other implants? I recommend Dr. Romanow in Silver Spring. |
Bone graft and sinus lift and implant performed same day. Seemingly no complications, passed torque test but xmray showed missing bone around implant. Had additional bone graft to fill space, passed torque again, seemed okay, but then developed inflammation and pus months later right before I was scheduled to get crown. Back in surgery discover tiny space that didn’t show up on imaging. Filled space again with more graft. A few days out from that but getting paranoid it’s not doing well. Went to see surgeon he says healing well. Just paranoid with all the complications and want someone else to examine and review case. Thanks for suggestions. I’m in my 20s so expected this to heal easily. |
| Where do you live? |
DMV. Don’t want to specify but I am willing to travel for a highly recommended oral surgeon. |
When I got my implant, it was a long process. First the extraction and bone graft. 3 months later, a 3d xray. A month after that, the implant post placement. 5-6 months later, a regular xray and crown. Yours may have failed because there was not enough time between placing the bone graft and implant and then using the "tooth". I ate on the other side of my mouth only for almost a year while waiting for the final restoration. I hope you get this sorted out. Your young age will definitely help in the healing process. I was much older when I got mine. |
DP Some use cadaver bone grafts. |

Also Recommend Dr. Romanow’s team in Montgomery county. Over the past 15 years, I’ve been to them for a few different problems, including a dental implant.
I agree with a PP that when I got my dental implant, it was over a nine month period where they would do one step and then wait. It seems very odd that you got yours all done at once and not a best practice. But I’m not an expert, so I could be wrong, but that did stand out to me. |
| Neel Patel at Bethesda Chevy Chase Oral Surgery. I just had an extraction, bone graft and implant last week and it seems to be going well. I really liked him and the entire office |
