| my 12 year old daughter has asked if there is a summer camp for ADHD kids she could attend, I don't know where to start. Any recommendations close to Bethesda? Thanks |
| Would you/she be open to sleep away camp? |
|
yes, sleep away would be fine

SOAR specializes in ADHD.
Sequoia has an all girls program she might like. |
| Camp Kodiak in Canada has also been recommended favorably by many. |
It does, and I know people who give it rave reviews, but it does not accommodate picky eaters, so if food selectivity is a comorbidity, it may not be a fit. |
| I've avoided ADHD-specific summer camps because I worry my kid will devolve to the lowest common denominator. Instead, he's done some really fun sports and outdoor-oriented camps. He particularly loved sailing and mountain biking camps. Being outdoors, in nature, with a fair amount of physical effort expended daily, is so good for him. He comes back happy and confident. |
Oh so your adhd is better than those other loser adhd kids...
You sound insufferable. |
My near extreme picky eater attended SOAR last summer and *loved* it. |
Wow. Just wow. My kid came back empowered and confident from their ADHD-specific summer camp. A springboard for growth. |
| If your kid has any interest in Percy Jackson, I would check out Camp Halfblood in Rock Creek Park. Lots of ND kids, they are outside all day, and the staff are mainly theater people. They also handled my kid’s afternoon ADHD meds really well. |
| Glad to hear that endorsement, my kid is trying CHB for the first time this summer! |

Just throwing this out there. There’s not a location around here so it only works if you have summer flexibility

There are a number of different locations: Cleveland Cincinnati Kansas City Florida —I think it’s Miami There are others but I don’t remember them off the top of my head. https://pages.clevelandclinic.org/06-0321-adhdsummercamp_index.html https://www.cincinnatichildrens.org/service/c/adhd/summer-treatment-program |
| The American Camp Association has lists of different types of camps. I imagine it would make your kid feel better to be among similar kids who struggle and not have to feel like the odd one out. Best of luck. |
The sequoia program has a wide food selection to my memory. Maybe try there. |
