In 2024 I’d love to expand my Indian repertoire beyond dal makhani and chana masala. What are DCUM’s favorite Indian recipes/cookbooks?

Anything by Madhur Jaffrey, or Urvashi Pitre. I have Instant Pot cookbooks by Pitre and also like her site:

I really like my Vikram Vij cookbooks - Vij’s and Vij’s at Home. Reminiscent of Rasika menu but very doable.

Another interesting one that’s vegetarian: Vibrant India by Chitra Agrawal.

Madhur Jaffrey's Quick & Easy Indian Cooking Is the best cookbook I own. Not sure I’ve made every recipe from another cookbook.

My not very adventurous eater of a DH begs me to make 8 or 9 recipes from this cookbook frequently, and we are both midwestern people raised on American meat and potatoes meals. I hated the lack of variety but he found it comforting. It’s the perfect starter book for the timid, but it’s also a great book for people who love quick and elegant meals. She’s so brilliant.

Love Vibrant India. Delicious and many are very healthy. Not the heavy cream based curries some may be used to.
