New Mean Girls Movie?

Anyone seen it? How is it? What age would you take your daughter?

Saw the musical but not the new movie. Common Sense Media says 13+.

"Expect suggestive gestures and lingo, including a teen rapping about his skills "under the sheets" and mentions of one girl's high number of sex partners. There's also passionate, over-the-top kissing, plenty of cleavage, and a couple of numbers with sexy costumes/references. Language -- from "a--hole" and "s--t" to "b--ch" and "sl-t" -- is fairly frequent. Teens drink in a couple of party scenes (including having shots), and there are references to vaping and an inhaler full of vodka. Violence is infrequent and played for humor but does include one potentially shocking moment."

We really enjoyed it, but our family has seen the original movie, the Broadway show, and it’s important for folks to know that this is not a redo of the movie. It is a movie take of the musical. Lots of singing. We loved it! I took my 12-year-old but she’s the youngest child and, that language/discussion is not shocking to her.

Thinking about it seems an edgy PG13.

I took a group of 12 year olds yesterday. They enjoyed it okay but prefer the original. Found the music boring.

Seems like a lame money grab.

This is how my 14 year old felt about it.

Tina Fey needs to get some integrity and creativity and move on from this hackneyed cash cow. Give it a break!

My 12 yo loved it. I love the original, and the new musical is entertaining but can't compare to the 2004 movie. The new Regina is gorgeous, but on screen she looks bigger and taller than all the other actors. I looked up her height and she is not overly tall... maybe the other actors are fairly short.

Can't for the life of me understand why they remade this movie, which isn't even old to begin with.

It wasn't a remake of the original movie, it was a remake of the musical.

It looks like bullshit. I watch it when it is free on Netflix.

It won’t be as good as the first.

I actually liked the new one better, and I will admit here that I watched both the new and old movies today so I could compare. They spent more time on the side characters in the new version, for the better, and I enjoyed the songs.

I’m loyal to the original but this one is fun! Regina is a more complex character for one thing. The new Janis (the woman who sang Moana!) is also less of a caricature. Oh, and there’s lots more racial and body size diversity too.
