Best college towns to retire in that are not far from Washington D.C. / the DMV area

I was speaking to someone about Lexington, Virginia yesterday and they ended up disliking the town. Reason being they felt the healthcare system and infrastructure wasn’t supportive of elderly health issues.

What other towns would you consider college towns that you would retire to .. that are not outrageously far from the DMV?

Charlottesville

And if you are willing to travel, Bloomington IN?

I wouldn’t say Charlottesville. It’s incredibly difficult to get established as a patient with PCPs, dentists, and wait for specialists are insane.

Somewhere in North Carolina - Raleigh-Durham or Wilmington come to mind. Charleston SC.

I'd look at Hanover NH or Burlington VT if you are okay with cold.

Why would you retire to a college town?

We’ve id’ed the perfect town but won’t inflate the real estate before we settle there in a few years.

I am aiming for Hanover, nh.
No income tax and there is a major medical center.
Plus, I like to hike and ski.
